Arela

A car porch catches driven rain right through the monsoon, and that is where Arela earns its outdoor rating. The deep matt texture holds grip when the surface is wet, and it throws no glare back at you in the afternoon. The pale natural clear stain colour reads like limewashed oak, which keeps a covered porch or a balcony from feeling closed in. There are only three random faces here, so the pattern repeats quickly. Buy from one batch, open four or five boxes and shuffle the planks. Planks are 200 x 1200 mm and come five to a box, 1.20 m2 and roughly 25 kg.

• Is Arela suitable for a humid home?

Yes. Arela is glazed ceramic with 6 to 8 percent water absorption, so humid months do not make it swell, cup or warp the way timber and laminate can.

• How many boxes of Arela for a 3 x 4 m bedroom?

A 3 x 4 m room is 12 m². With 10 percent extra for cutting, that is 11 boxes, since each box of 5 planks (20 x 120 cm) covers 1.20 m² and weighs about 25 kg.

• Can Arela go on a balcony or porch?

Yes. Arela is rated for outdoor use, so covered balconies, porches and walkways can have a wood deck look without the upkeep of real timber.

• What upkeep does Arela need?

Sweep, then mop with a mild floor cleaner. The glazed satin textured face needs no oiling, sanding or polish.
