Ipe Out Black

Rated for outdoor use, Ipe Out Black is a dark grey plank with a deep matt texture, the surface with the most grip and no glare off it in full sun. That combination suits a pool surround, a covered patio or a balcony. A dark tile does absorb heat, so a shaded or covered position is the sensible one if people will be barefoot in January. The design has only three random faces, so cartons must be opened and mixed or the repeat will show. It is glazed ceramic. Planks are 150 x 900 mm, 8 to a box, covering 1.08 m2 at 22 kg.

• What does a carton of Ipe Out Black cover?

• How many cartons of Ipe Out Black for a 16 m² rumpus room?

Add 10 percent to 16 m² for cuts and breakage, which gives 17.6 m². At 1.08 m² a carton that is 17 cartons.

• Can Ipe Out Black go in an alfresco area?

Yes. Ipe Out Black is rated for outdoor use, so a covered alfresco, verandah or balcony can have a timber deck look that never needs oiling or re-staining.

• What grout joint should Ipe Out Black be laid with?

Ipe Out Black is a curve-edge plank rather than a rectified one, so lay it with a 3 to 5 mm joint. That spacing takes up the small natural variation along the plank and reads like the gap between real boards.
