Wood finish tiles

What wooden tiles are, and where they work

Wooden tiles are glazed ceramic tiles printed and textured to carry the grain, knots and tonal variation of sawn timber. They are laid like any ceramic floor or wall tile, with adhesive and grout, and they behave like ceramic once laid. That means no sealing, no polishing, no swelling in humidity and no termite risk, which is why they have replaced engineered wood across most Indian residential projects.

Sizes and formats

Metro produces four plank formats. The 150x900mm is the narrowest and reads closest to a traditional timber board, with 70 designs available. The 200x1000mm and 200x1200mm suit larger rooms where fewer grout lines give a calmer floor. The 200x1400mm is the longest board and is usually specified for open plan living areas and showrooms. Chevron and diamante are supplied as separate pattern collections.

Surfaces

Three surfaces are available. Satin Plain has a smooth low sheen face. Matt Texture carries a grain relief you can feel underfoot and is the usual choice for bathrooms, balconies and staircases because of its grip. Satin Texture sits between the two, with light relief and a soft sheen.

Colours

Ten tones run from Natural Clear Stain and White at the palest end, through Golden Honey, Nutmeg, Warm Chestnut and Cinnamon in the mid range, to Tuscan Coffee, Merlot, Grey and Dark Grey at the darker end. Paler tones make small rooms read larger. Darker tones hide dust in high traffic areas.

Where these tiles are used

Indoors these tiles are laid in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms. The Matt Texture surface is rated for bathroom floors and wet areas. On staircases the 150x900mm plank cuts cleanly to tread depth, and the same tile is used for riser faces. Outdoors they are specified for balconies, terraces and covered decks, and on front elevation walls where wood look cladding is wanted without the maintenance of real timber.
