Almond

The name suggests something pale, but Almond is a dark brown, closer to ironbark than to blond timber. The surface is satin texture, a light relief that still mops in one pass, which is why it belongs in a dining room or a formal lounge, and the light grain hides dust better than a smooth dark floor would. Four random faces is a small set for a plank this long, so open several boxes and shuffle the planks before laying. Each plank is 200 x 1200 mm in glazed ceramic at 9 to 9.5 mm, and a box of 5 covers 1.20 m2 at 25 kg.

• What does a carton of Almond cover?

Each carton holds 5 planks of 20 x 120 cm and covers 1.20 m², at about 25 kg. Almond is a timber look tile with a lightly textured satin face.

• How many cartons of Almond for a 28 m² open plan kitchen and dining area?

Add 10 percent to 28 m² for cuts and breakage, which gives 30.8 m². At 1.20 m² a carton that is 26 cartons.

• Can Almond go in an alfresco area?

No, Almond is rated for interior use. For a covered alfresco or verandah, choose one of Metro's designs rated for outdoor use.

• What grout joint should Almond be laid with?

Almond is a curve-edge plank rather than a rectified one, so lay it with a 3 to 5 mm joint. That spacing takes up the small natural variation along the plank and reads like the gap between real boards.
