Castagno

Castagno is Italian for chestnut, and the tile carries a golden honey close to Tasmanian oak on a smooth satin plain face. Five random faces is a moderate set, so mix boxes before laying anything larger than a single room. Where this one earns its place is a rental or a house being finished for sale: honey is the tone most buyers picture when they picture a timber floor, and the smooth face cleans quickly between inspections. It shows dust faster than a textured tile does. Planks are 200 x 1200 mm in glazed ceramic at 9 to 9.5 mm, 5 per box, 1.20 m2 and 25 kg.

• How is Castagno packed?

Each carton holds 5 planks of 20 x 120 cm and covers 1.20 m², at about 25 kg. Castagno is a timber look tile with a smooth satin face.

• How many cartons of Castagno for a 28 m² open plan kitchen and dining area?

Add 10 percent to 28 m² for cuts and breakage, which gives 30.8 m². At 1.20 m² a carton that is 26 cartons.

• Can Castagno go in an alfresco area?

No, Castagno is rated for interior use. For a covered alfresco or verandah, choose one of Metro's designs rated for outdoor use.

• What grout joint should Castagno be laid with?

Castagno is a curve-edge plank rather than a rectified one, so lay it with a 3 to 5 mm joint. That spacing takes up the small natural variation along the plank and reads like the gap between real boards.
