Niquel

Grey works on a balcony where a brown often does not, sitting quietly against render, glass and an aluminium balustrade. Niquel is outdoor rated, with a deep matt texture that holds grip when rain blows in and throws no glare when the sun drops low in the afternoon. Three random faces is a small set, though a balcony is a small floor, so the repeat rarely announces itself. Mix cartons anyway. Each plank is 200 x 1200 mm glazed ceramic at 9 to 9.5 mm, and a box of 5 covers 1.20 m2 and weighs 25 kg.

• How many square metres are in a carton of Niquel?

  Each carton holds 5 planks of 20 x 120 cm and covers 1.20 m², at about 25 kg. Niquel is a timber look tile with a matte textured face.

• How many cartons of Niquel for a 12 m² bedroom?

  Add 10 percent to 12 m² for cuts and breakage, which gives 13.2 m². At 1.20 m² a carton that is 11 cartons.

• Can Niquel go in an alfresco area?

  Yes. Niquel is rated for outdoor use, so a covered alfresco, verandah or balcony can have a timber deck look that never needs oiling or re-staining.

• Does Niquel suit hydronic underfloor heating?

  Yes. As a glazed ceramic plank it will not gap or cup as the slab warms, and unlike engineered timber it has no 27°C surface limit.
