Pine Wood

Satin plain is the smooth one. Pine Wood mops in a single pass, which is the whole point of it in a busy family kitchen or a rental where cleaning time is the deciding factor. The colour is golden honey, the pale warm tone people usually mean when they say blackbutt. The trade offs are worth stating plainly. A smooth glaze shows dust sooner than a textured one and gives no grip advantage, so keep it out of the bathroom and off the alfresco. Five random faces suits rooms rather than whole floors. The plank is 200 x 1200 mm, glazed ceramic, 9 to 9.5 mm, 5 per box, 1.20 m2, 25 kg.

• How many square metres are in a carton of Pine Wood?

Each carton holds 5 planks of 20 x 120 cm and covers 1.20 m², at about 25 kg. Pine Wood is a timber look tile with a smooth satin face.

• How many cartons of Pine Wood for a 28 m² open plan kitchen and dining area?

Add 10 percent to 28 m² for cuts and breakage, which gives 30.8 m². At 1.20 m² a carton that is 26 cartons.

• Can Pine Wood go in an alfresco area?

No, Pine Wood is rated for interior use. For a covered alfresco or verandah, choose one of Metro's designs rated for outdoor use.

• What grout joint should Pine Wood be laid with?

Pine Wood is a curve-edge plank rather than a rectified one, so lay it with a 3 to 5 mm joint. That spacing takes up the small natural variation along the plank and reads like the gap between real boards.
