Belmond Obsidian

Belmond Obsidian is the dark end of the Belmond line, a charcoal with the wood grain still visible on a satin textured face. Six random faces per design, 8 x 40 inch planks in glazed ceramic at 9 to 9.5 mm, 5 to a carton for 10.76 sq ft and 20 kg. Charcoal wood look tile is the usual answer for a bath with white fixtures and black faucets, and for offices and shops where the floor should not show its traffic. The grain keeps some warmth in the color, so the room does not end up reading like bare concrete. Against pale walls it gives a living room a clean edge.

  A 10 x 12 ft room is 120 sq ft. With 10 percent added for cuts and breakage that is 132 sq ft, or 13 boxes at 10.76 sq ft each.

• Can Belmond Obsidian go over radiant floor heating?

  Yes. It is a glazed ceramic plank 9 to 9.5 mm thick, so it does not gap, cup or split as the floor warms, and it has no 80°F (27°C) surface limit the way engineered wood does.

• What grout joint does Belmond Obsidian need?

  Belmond Obsidian is a curve-edge plank, not rectified, so plan on a joint of 3 to 5 mm, about 1/8 to 3/16 inch. The wider joint gives each board its own line, the way real planks sit.
