Hickory

Hickory is a naturally busy wood, with high contrast between light and dark within a single board, and this tile keeps that character. Eleven random faces per design means the contrast stays varied across a large floor rather than repeating. The color is a warm chestnut on a smooth satin face. Planks are 8 x 40 inches in glazed ceramic at 9 to 9.5 mm, 5 to a carton for 10.76 sq ft and 20 kg. A floor with this much going on wants a quiet room around it: white walls, black metal, linen. If you want the same brown with a calmer grain, JK-915442 is the one to compare it against.

• What comes in a box of Hickory?

Hickory comes in 8 x 40 inch planks, 5 to a box. One box covers 10.76 sq ft and weighs about 44 lb.

• How many boxes of Hickory do I need for a 14 x 16 ft great room?

A 14 x 16 ft room is 224 sq ft. With 10 percent added for cuts and breakage that is 246 sq ft, or 23 boxes at 10.76 sq ft each.

• Can Hickory go over radiant floor heating?

Yes. It is a glazed ceramic plank 9 to 9.5 mm thick, so it does not gap, cup or split as the floor warms, and it has no 80°F (27°C) surface limit the way engineered wood does.

• Is Hickory a good choice for a bathroom floor?

Hickory has a smooth satin face, which suits dry rooms best. For a bathroom floor, pick a design with the Matt Texture finish, which gives more grip underfoot.
