Dark floors are usually a compromise, because most of them mark badly and repeat quickly. This one avoids both. Tuscan coffee is an ironbark brown, deep and even, and it sits on the matt texture, the deepest face available, which hides dust and stops the sun bouncing off a floor that would otherwise glare. Eleven random faces is high, so a long open plan run holds up without the eye catching the same grain twice. It also means less carton mixing before you lay. Boxes carry 8 planks of 150 x 900 mm, 1.08 m2 and 22 kg. Indoor rated, 9 to 9.5 mm glazed ceramic.

• How is NRC-201 packed?

  Each carton holds 8 planks of 15 x 90 cm and covers 1.08 m², at about 22 kg. NRC-201 is a timber look tile with a matte textured face.

• How many cartons of NRC-201 for a 28 m² open plan kitchen and dining area?

  Add 10 percent to 28 m² for cuts and breakage, which gives 30.8 m². At 1.08 m² a carton that is 29 cartons.

• Can NRC-201 go in an alfresco area?

  No, NRC-201 is rated for interior use. For a covered alfresco or verandah, choose one of Metro's designs rated for outdoor use.

• What grout joint should NRC-201 be laid with?

  NRC-201 is a curve-edge plank rather than a rectified one, so lay it with a 3 to 5 mm joint. That spacing takes up the small natural variation along the plank and reads like the gap between real boards.
