Floors over in slab or hydronic heating do better in tile than in timber, and a warm dark brown keeps such a room from feeling clinical. Oaklore Taupe is tuscan coffee, a deep brown with red under it rather than grey, and the deep rustic texture gives bare feet more grip than a smooth face does. Six random faces carries an open plan living and dining area without an obvious pattern showing up. It sits deliberately warmer than Oaklore Nero if you want a dark floor that is not a cold one. Planks are 200 x 1200 mm glazed ceramic, 9 to 9.5 mm thick. A box holds 5 planks, covers 1.20 m2 and weighs 25 kg.

• Can Oaklore Taupe go in an alfresco area?

  No, Oaklore Taupe is rated for interior use. For a covered alfresco or verandah, choose one of Metro's designs rated for outdoor use.

• Does Oaklore Taupe suit hydronic underfloor heating?

  Yes. As a glazed ceramic plank it will not gap or cup as the slab warms, and unlike engineered timber it has no 27°C surface limit.
